Book Submissions

Have you written a book that you’d like Dogberry & Finch Books to stock?

Please read all of these guidelines before emailing us.

As a small bookshop, the only independent & self-published books we will consider stocking are non-fiction books of local interest or local history.

Please note: we do not accept memoirs, fiction or books for children that have been self-published or published by a hybrid publisher, or any book published through Amazon.

Only in extremely rare occasions do we consider getting stock directly from a local author, as we simply don’t have the capacity to take on all the extra administration that this entails.

If you are a local author who has been published through a mainstream publisher, with your book available through wholesalers (on standard terms), then we could be happy to hear from you via email initially.

Please don’t bring your book into the shop for consideration unless we have asked you to, or post unsolicited books to us.

Due to the large number of requests we receive to stock independent & self-published books, we regret that we can’t respond individually to each request. We do consider every book we are asked to stock and aim to reply to all submissions, but this is not always possible.

Submissions are closed between October and December as this is the busiest time of the year, with thousands of new titles being published.

If we don’t decide to stock your book, please don’t take this personally. What works for one bookshop doesn’t work for another, and this is not a reflection on you or your work.

If you’d like further general advice and information, the Bookseller’s Association have written an excellent guide which you can find on their website or download from the link below.
